Syd U Graduate Chamber Choir Presents Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle In Its Original Version
The Sydney University Graduate Chamber Choir is proud to present a performance of Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle – or Little Solemn Mass – in its original form, accompanied by two pianos played by Antonio Fernandez and Noah Pere and reed organ played by Monika Kornel.
The ensemble will be led by its distinguished director, Christopher Bowen OAM, and joined by a gifted line-up of soloists, soprano Elke Hook , mezzo-soprano Ashlyn Tymms, tenor Ben Oxley and bass David Hidden.
Written in 1863, this Mass is one of Rossini’s last compositions. Despite its title, the Mass is in fact, a large-scale work, and is one of Rossini’s greatest achievements. Full of passion, drama and poignancy, it is the summation of the consummate opera composer’s life’s work. It is also technically skilful, reflecting Rossini’s study and love of Bach.
Established in 2004, the Sydney University Graduate Chamber Choir is a smaller configuration of the larger Sydney University Graduate Choir that performs repertoire requiring greater intimacy or transparency of sound.
