Selby and friends – a feast of rarities

For the fourth tour of the 2012 Selby & Friends concert season, pianist Kathryn Selby is joined by British violinist Elizabeth Layton, former member of the famed Nash Ensemble and leader of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Australian violist Glen Donnelly and virtuoso cellist Julian Smiles, in a program of masterpiece for piano quartet.

The programme includes My Song is Love Unknown, written by award winning composer Paul Stanhope, a tribute to a hymn tune by  the English composer John Ireland.

Kathryn Selby is committed to providing opportunities for young Australian artists alongside more experienced performers. For Glen Donnelly, who is continuing his studies in London, it is a wonderful opportunity for the ensemble to once again provide a unique platform for chamber music performance true to its beginnings.

Violinist Elizabeth Layton has been resident in Adelaide after moving here from the UK with her husband and family in 2010. She says, “This program provides a rich tapestry of interwoven melodies that explore the very nature and flavour of Dvorak’s homeland, Mahler’s dynamic originality and Mozart’s ever-popular whim and wit.  With the added well-known sacred melody as the basis for the Stanhope, it is sure to provide a great deal of pleasure on many levels.”
