Finalists Announced IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition

Five outstanding emerging singers have been selected to perform in the 2025 IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition. They are soprano Sophie Blades (24) and tenor Wesley Haotian Yu (23) from NSW, and from Victoria, mezzo-sopranos Sidra Nissen (23) and Brittney Northcott (24), baritone Aidan Hodder (25) and mezzo-soprano Sidra Nissen (23). Baritone Jeffrey Black served as National Adjudicator.
These incredible young singers will compete for Australia’s most coveted award for opera and classical singing, the Marianne Mathy Scholarship (‘The Mathy’) in the gala finals concert in Sydney on 25 September. they will perform with the Opera Australia Orchestra conducted by Natalie Murray Beale. Anna Dowsley, winner of the 2012 Mathy Scholarship and 2019 Opera Awards will be the guest artist.
