The IFAC Australian Singing Competition Announces 2014 Semi-Finalists

Eleven young singers from Australia and New Zealand have been chosen from nearly 80 applicants to compete in the Semi-Finals of the 2014 IFAC Australian Singing Competition. 

Pianist and vocal coach David Harper will accompany the semi-finalists and special guest Simon Tedeschi will perform on the night.

The ASC is regarded as Australasia’s richest and most prestigious singing competition that aims to identify and encourage talented young classical singers. The competitors are vying for a number of career-building awards and opportunities valued at more than $180,000.00. 

The competition is open to classical and opera singers who are under the age of 26. Five finalists will be chosen from the 11 semi-finalists’ They will have the opportunity to attend a Masterclass conducted by Jeffrey Black before competing in the Finals Concert on Saturday 30 August at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.  

Singers auditioned during heats held in Australia and for the first time in London.  The London heats were held at Guildhall with an impressive adjudication panel consisting of Australia’s Yvonne Kenny, David Harper and Linnhe Robertson. The Australian heats were presided over by National Adjudicator Jeffrey Black. 

The semi-finalists for 2014 are:

Sopranos Kate Amos (24), Jessica Boyd (22), Cristina Russo  (24) and Anna Voshege  (24) all from Victoria,

West Australian sopranos Samantha Clarke (23), Corinne Cowling (24) and Amy Manford (21), 

 Soprano Jessica Harper (24) and tenor Joel Scott (24) from New South Wales,

Tenor Iain Henderson (25) from Queensland and soprano Isabella Moore (24) from New Zealand.                       

Previous winners of the competition include Rachelle Durkin, Amelia Farrugia, Stuart Skelton and Paul Whelan who have all gone on to achieve national and international acclaim.
