The Australian reports that singers on 12 month contracts with Opera Australia will be rested for upto 12 weeks without pay in 2013. A representative of Actors’ Equity claims that this is to make way for the musical The King and I; OA artistic director Lyndon Terracini says it is due to “casting and financial considerations.”…
German composer Detlev Glanert (b 1960) re-orchestrated the Four Serioua Songs of Brahms and augmened them with preludes and a postlude. The work premiered at the BBC Prom in July 2006. Maestro Zubin Mehta has been made a Companion of the Order Australia in a surprise ceremony which capped off a sumptuous performance with the Australian World Orchestra in the newly refurbished Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on Fridat night. Presenting the award was the Governor-General, His Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC.
